Department of Social Hygiene was founded in 1924 at the Baku State University. In 1939 the National Commissariat of the Republic founded «The Bureau of Health Statistics» which became a training base. In 1941 the name of the department was renamed to the "Public Health Services Organization", in 1950 the «History of the Medicine» began to teach like course. In 1966 the department changed it's name and became known as «Social Hygiene and Health Organization». In 1970 the department was established laboratory «Scientific organization of labor» and in 1981 it's became a structural part of the Ministry of Health.
1976-1988 at the Department taught «Soviet law». From 1989 to 1993 the department called «Social hygiene, public health and the automatic control system», in 1993 was again renamed to the «Social hygiene and the organization of public health», in 2010 the Department is called «Public health and health organization».
